An explanation for Scott McTominay missing Manchester United’s meeting with Aston Villa has been provided.

Manchester United are set to face off with Aston Villa on Saturday morning in their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer.

Ahead of the Villa game, Manchester United released their starting line-up just over an hour before kick-off.

The line-up itself was fairly strong, though Erik ten Hag dismissed suggestions he was close to finding his best eleven:

“I’m not talking about starting XI. We have to construct a squad and from there we can picking the starting XI to start the games depending on the opponents.”


One player who missed out on the matchday squad altogether, though, was Scott McTominay, with it since reported that the midfielder has a little niggle and is not being risked:
